Emigration to Brazil
Between 1855 and 1914 , 1,296,268 Portuguese emigrated and, in the Municipality of Fafe, between 1834 and 1926, around 8,722.
We know that around 15,000 sailed to Rio de Janeiro in 1808, accompanying Prince D. João VI.
These settle in Rio de Janeiro and, as would be expected, would constitute the political, administrative, military, judicial and academic elite of Portugal, leaving complete families that would circulate in the vicinity of the royal family and the court, the moment being described as sudden, poorly planned and chaotic.
